For 29 years, Rick Pope has been a trial lawyer who is drawn to varied and complex civil cases for plaintiffs and defendants, including business torts, intellectual property, insurance coverage, contract disputes, personal injury, product liability, employment disputes and professional liability.

Rick has tried 15 jury trials, including a three-
month successful suit for environmental insurance coverage, and won three million-dollar-plus verdicts. He has also handled many bench trials, commercial arbitrations, and mediations.

His first trial took him to the Oregon Supreme Court, and he has since briefed and argued nine other appeals in the Oregon Court of Appeals. He argued and won the 2006 decision of Cascade Corporation v. American Home Assurance Co., a landmark Oregon case on allocation of insurance policies covering losses over many years. Rick's ability to explain complex insurance concepts is illustrated in his article published in The Portland Business Journal, "Insurance Policy Ambiguities Can Yield Maximum Coverage."

Rick is current President of the Owen M. Panner American Inn of Court. He was on the Uniform Civil Jury Instruction Committee of the Oregon State Bar from 2005-2008, and was chair of its business litigation subcommittee. He is co-author of the Actions Against Insurers past two supplements for the Oregon State Bar's publication on Insurance. A former newspaper reporter, he has served on the Oregon's Joint Bar-Press-Broadcasters Committee.

Rick graduated with degrees in journalism (1974) and law (1979, magna cum laude and Order of the Coif) from the University of Illinois. He clerked for U.S. District Judge Harold Baker in Illinois, and came to Oregon with his family in 1980.
